INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SPEAKER – Carole Hayashino

 

Carole Hayashino serves as the Associate Vice President of University Advancement and development at San Francisco State University.  She overseas the university’s development office and is responsible for private giving, alumni, corporate and foundation relations on behalf of the university.  Under her directorship, the prestigious Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) recognized San Francisco State University in 2000 as the Most Improved Fundraising Program among colleges and universities.  Carole serves on the SFSU Foundation Board of Directors.  She is a member of CASE and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

 

Carole worked in the 1970s to support the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University, where she continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member.

 

The Marin County Board of Supervisors appointed Carole to the Human Rights Commission in 1996.  She currently serves as the commission’s chair.  She is a member of Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante’s Commission for One California and the Advisory Board of the California Civil Liberties Pubilc Education Fund in the California Sate Librarian’s Office.

 

She has been awarded the Marin County Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award, Special Appreciation Award from the Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice, and Leadership Award from the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California.

 

Carole graduated from San Francisco State University with B.A. in Sociology in 1974 and completed her graduate work at university of San Francisco in 1979.
