School Fuel Launches a $250 Campaign to Stop State-Imposed Budget Cuts from Hurting Novato's Students
The Novato Unified School District is facing devastating funding cuts. Since 2008, almost $10 million has been cut from the state funding for our district and at least $2.8 million more needs to be cut from the budget for the 2010-2011 school year. School Fuel has launched a “$250 Campaign” to raise $250 for every student in the NUSD. If we reach this goal, we can offset the cuts that will be made in next year’s budget.
Novato schools provide a fabulous education for our children and $250 per child is a small amount to pay to maintain this quality. Not everyone will be able to give at this level. We are encouraging parents to give whatever they are able. Some people may be able to fund an extra child or a whole class! For more information, see our flyer (Spanish). Also, please spread the word to other Novato residents.
We’ll be posting our progress on this website, and on signs around town. Our children only have one opportunity for an education. Together, we can make sure that they stay on track!

Beautiful Replica of Novato's Refurbished City Hall will be Raffled to Benefit School Fuel
The builder who recently refurbished Novato’s landmark Old City Hall has created a very special birthday present to the City. Alten Construction has helped build a shed-sized replica of Novato’s most recognizable building, and is delivering it just in time for the celebrations that mark Novato’s 50th anniversary as an incorporated city. The replica was installed on the lawn at the Novato Unified School District offices at Seventh & Grant on January 20, and will remain on display there temporarily for all to enjoy. View our photo gallery.
The replica project is a collaboration between Alten Construction, Interactive Resources, architect Michael Barber, West Bay Builders, Cazzaniga Design Studio, Unicorn Printing, and School Fuel, Novato’s local education foundation. Decorative artist Kelly Cazzaniga, the owner of Cazzaniga Design Studio, has added decoration to the little building and is offering up to eight additional hours of design work to customize this project for the eventual owner. She suggests that the winner might use this time to have her add the likeness of a child, grandchild, or family pet to the structure.
School Fuel is selling raffle tickets for the opportunity to own this lovely work of art. The winner of the raffle may wish to use this well-built structure as a playhouse, garden shed, or storage unit. Raffle winners also have the option of donating the structure to the Novato public school of their choice. The winner will be drawn at School Fuel’s annual spring event, the Cycling for Schools FunFair, on May 1. No more than 3,000 tickets will be sold. The price per ticket is $10 or 12 tickets for $100. Tickets are available from School Fuel through the mail and at all of their events, at the NUSD headquarters reception desk, and at Matt & Jeff’s. If you would like to order tickets through the mail, you can download the entry form here. The complete Raffle Rules are available here.
